Matthews, NC - A simple case of the flu last fall was nearly fatal for a Matthews mother of five.

"Sepsis started killing my organs one by one. I got very sick very quickly. My husband was told to say goodbye to me on several occasions," said Seaford.

While doctors saved her life, she lost both arms and her left foot. Now the triple-amputee is adjusting to her new life and leaning on the support of others.

Kristan Seaford Talks about the day it Happened

Her neighbors, church and friends have refused to let her give up and are hosting a 5K race and one-mile walk to support her.

" It hit 500 and then it hit 600. Now we're at 750. I didn't know I knew 750 people. I have 750 people that love me," she said.

For all the love and support, she is grateful.
"Everyone has wrapped their arms around us and lifted us up. Lifted me up. For sure."
