Neighbors Try Last Resort To Block Walmart

Posted: Updated:
Neighbors in Swan Meadows subdivision in Rock Hill are trying their last option to stop a Walmart from going up just outside their neighborhood.

After a lot of back and forth from city council members, they finally approved the plan at Tuesday night’s council meeting.

The only thing holding up the developers now is approval from the South Carolina Department of Transportation to close a few roads during construction and also add a traffic signal.

But residents are reaching out to SC DOT in hopes that they will deny the road requests.

“All we can do is approach SC DOT and hope we can get their support,” said resident Sarah Morgan.

Developer Steve West has explained that to build the 42,000 square foot Neighborhood Walmart, they would need to close part of Ebinport , add a traffic signal to Celanese Rd and realign Ebinwood Road with Ebinport Road.

“We are evaluating this project just like any other… the process is well underway and moving forward," said SC DOT representative.
