Defoy Glenn says Maya Angelou's legacy will be cherished for hundreds of years to come. Although he lives in Charlotte now, he stayed by Angelou's side for 25 years as her personal assistant.

Glenn says he had the honor of meeting her in 1981 when a mutual friend introduced them. Glenn went on to traveling the world with her, and watching her impact the lives of so many people.

On a day when the world mourns her death, it's her legacy that Glenn will always remember - her contagious spirit and contribution to society.

"She was a person who loved all people and all races. She tried to unite the human race because her statement was that we are all more alike than we are unalike," he said.

Glenn is headed to Winston-Salem to pay his respect, along with a small group of her closest friends.
