On every block, resides a genius. But on one block in Charlotte's Cotswold neighborhood, there are three genius ballerinas whose grace on stage transcends time, and takes us across continents.

Gay Porter - dancer, choreographer, artistic director extraordinaire - has directed the Charlotte Youth Ballet for more than 3 decades. She also founded the prestigious Charlotte School of Ballet back in 1968, and the school continues to flourish today. For Gay, the journey began in her native England. She was a child prodigy, touring internationally in her teens, a career that expands the decades. Over the years, Gay Porter has danced on television and in film, even sharing the screen with Esther Williams in the Esther Williams Spectacular.

In the Porter family, dance is a ferocious passion, traveling from generation to generation. Gay’s daughter, Bridget Porter Young, followed in her mom’s footsteps. She began dancing under her mother’s tutelage as a child and has danced her way into adulthood and across the globe. She even has performed on Broadway. Now, Bridget has joined forces with her mother and former teacher, Gay Porter, to bring high art to Charlotte from the studio to the stage. Bridget works as the Assistant Artistic Director of the Charlotte Youth Ballet, and she has passed the love of dance to her daughter Remy Young.

Remy Young is a ballerina with the poise, strength and grace of a seasoned Prima Ballerina. She is only 16 years old, but lights up the stage like a veteran. And in a sense, she is a veteran. Remy slipped on her first pair of ballet shoes as a toddler, tip-toeing into her mother and grandmother’s studio to get a glimpse of the elegant art. Remy says she wanted so desperately to be a dancer. “I began dancing when I was 2, and I have loved it ever since.”

Remy's talent exceeds her years, but she gets it honestly, through fierce training every day, and then there are the genes. Dancing may be in the Porter-Young blood. Still, Remy never shirks from discipline and ceaseless training: four to five hours of dance per day. Her hard work is paying off. Remy recently began a sojourn in New York, selected as a student in the world renown American Ballet Theatre School, a third generation genius in the making.
