“About every two weeks, we go buy a rotisserie chicken from wherever it’s on sale. On that night we eat chicken breast with two veggies and a fruit,” says Julia. “The next afternoon is my favorite, because we make Carolina Chicken Chili, which is a recipe I helped my mom make up."

Historic Brattonsville opened their doors on Monday,  giving visitors a chance to celebrate Memorial Day with some history.

The 775-acre war site is home to historic Revolutionary War battles.

“We wanted to show my granddaughter some of the historic areas around South Carolina,” said one visitor.

Families were invited to participate in 18th century cooking, games and militia demonstrations. The old plantation homes were also open and available for tours.

“You come out here and the past not only comes to life, it becomes personal,” said site manager Kevin Lynch.
