I’m a local boy from Claremont, North Carolina. I attended Western Carolina University where I received a B.S. in Communication with a double concentration of broadcasting and journalism. While in college I was the General Manager of WWCU-FM and color commentated WCU football basketball games.

Memorial weekend is the official kick off to summer. School is out, backyard cookouts, and the covers come off swimming pools. Tomorrow morning Mecklenburg County Parks & Rec will open the only two outdoor public pools: Cordelia & Double Oaks.

Cordelia can be found at 2100 N. Davidson St. while Double Oaks is located at 1200 Newland Road. Swimmers can start catching rays at 11 a.m. tomorrow and have to pack up at 5 p.m.

"We offer free swim lessons to kids," said James Alsop with Meck Co. Parks & Rec. "We have a goal of trying to reach and teach kids as young as preschool to the fifth grade."

Alsop added that Parks & Rec has been offering these lessons in the month of May at Ray's Splash Planet and will continue into June, each Saturday. They also have partnered with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools to use the West Charlotte pool.

Parks & Rec is also still looking for life guards and other jobs at the community pools. That information can be found, along with pool hours, HERE.
