House Majority Leader Eric Cantor stopped by the Siemens Charlotte Energy Hub today to tour the place and talk about his support of the Skills Act. It would provide federal workforce programs and serve as a job training system for college students.

Right now Siemens has an apprenticeship program with Central Piedmont Community College where students get the training they need for the jobs they want. Representative Cantor met with some of the students and spoke highly of the program.

“I have heard about the tremendous success of Charlotte and the Mecklenburg County and the state as well as employers like Siemens and the community college systems have had in dealing with this question of a workforce for the 21st century,” he said.

Current CPCC students also spoke on behalf of the program and said it allows them to get the skills they need for the jobs they want.

Representative Cantor’s visit also included a roundtable discussion, a tour of the facility.
