More than 100 men took the streets to walk a mile in high heels. There was a special reason behind it all; it was to raise money for Safe Alliance, a non-profit organization in Charlotte. Safe Alliance assists and houses victims of domestic violence.

It's not your typical sight at the airport.

Orange construction cones, detour signs, and road closures are what many travelers are seeing once they arrive to Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.

"Too many cars, too many people. The changes are good, I guess, when all this is done with the parking," said Chris Kirkpatrick who travels through the airport.

Parking is adding to the headaches of traveling at the airport, especially for Kirkpatrick.

"Because we couldn't find any parking, we had to park somewhere over there and we had to just miss our flight,"  said Kirkpatrick.

It's exactly what airport officials are warning the nearly 26,000 passengers that pass through the airport everyday.

"Check the airport website there's great information on parking. It will tell you the parking lots that are available," said Charlotte-Douglas International Airport representative, Herbert Judon.

The new parking deck is set to be ready before holidays this year, but more construction is on the way.

"We're gonna have on-going construction in the airport so we're in the mode that when one project gets done, another project will be completed,"  said Judon.

Some found traveling at Charlotte-Douglas International difficult.

"Change in the traffic pattern is confusing. That guy almost run over the curb, with that trailer. See, the pattern has got people slowing down and trying to make a decision," said Kirkpatrick.

Others found it simple.

"Here we are mid-day and we rolled right in. There wasn't any problem at all," said Tim Anderton who travels through Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.

To make sure you make your flight, arrive early, and pay attention to the signs out for new traffic patterns. While the change might delay you for now, Kirkpatrick says it's good for the long run.

"You gonna build something, you gotta have a mess," Kirkpatrick said, "and then you clean it up and everything is better."
