Shelby, NC -
UPDATED STORY

After a 2 month investigation, Shelby Police arrested and charged a school teaching assistant with assault.

Police say she hit a North Shelby student with a wooden spoon.

But 41-year-old Aleksandra Hoyle says those accusations are false.

She says it happened on a recent school trip back in March.

“I was taking the kids to the classroom. He was attacking the kids and me so my main point was to get them to the classroom. I got them situated and grabbed him, got a spoon and scared him but I never touched the child. I threatened him and I am responsible for threatening,” said Aleksandra Hoyle.

Hoyle says she hit the spoon on her hand and leg to scare the student.

“I didn’t spank him. I threatened him and I take full responsibility for it,” said Hoyle.

She says her main goal was to keep other kids safe.

“He knew exactly what he was doing. He would grab your hair and laugh about it. I had 5 kids and my goal was take care of them. The child was attacking teachers. My main goal was to get them to the classroom and keep them safe,” said Hoyle.

Hoyle plans to fight the accusations against her and prove her innocence.

“I’m not going to cry and be depressed. I’ve done enough last night so. I’m not going to waste something like this to ruin my life,” said Hoyle.

She’ll be in court Friday and was released on $10,000 bond.
