Joe DeLammaleire says playing through the pain was the culture when he was in the NFL.

" It was so open nobody knew it was wrong," he says. "They used to have a big sign above the whirlpool 'you cant make the club in the tub'."

He says it was fear of getting fired that kept players on the field. Now, former players like Joe have filed a lawsuit in San Francisco against the league. They say the league offered painkillers instead of having the players sit out.

Eight players, three from the 1985 champion Chicago Bears were named in the lawsuit. Joe isn’t involved, yet.

He was involved in the last lawsuit about concussions.

"They're telling you you're gonna be okay. He’s a doctor. You didn’t realize he's employed by the team. His job is to keep you on the field," says DeLammaleire.

"You get shots you're taking painkillers or whatever to get you through a game and then they release you. All the sudden your free drugs are gone and you're out there on your own."

Many are left with addictive habits.

"You didn’t know they were helping you get addicted to painkillers and drugs," DeLammaleire says.

We reached out to the NFL for comment. They say they have not looked at the suit yet.
