A Student Concern Specialist and Wrestling Coach at Hibriten High School in Caldwell County, has resigned after being arrested and charged with giving alcohol to minors.
Joshua Dale Woodruff turned himself into police Monday evening and was charged with three counts of Giving a Malt Beverage/ Unfortified wine to a person under the age of 21.
An investigation began after community members told police Woodruff had been giving alcohol to minors. Investigators determined he had allegedly given alcohol to students at his home between Oct. 18, 2013 and Nov. 9, 2013.
Woodruff was confined to the Caldwell County Detention Center under a $6,000 secured bond. He has a scheduled court date for July 7.
Chief Scott Brown said “This is a disappointing incident however this type of behavior is unacceptable by anyone. We have adopted a zero-tolerance policy and will diligently work with the Caldwell County School System and community to protect the safety of our students. We encourage anyone to report any allegations of underage drinking and those who provide alcohol to our youth.”
Hibriten High School released a statement stating they are supporting the Lenoir Police Department and they will continue to educate students on the ill-effects of alcohol and the laws that prohibit underage drinking,” said Superintendent Dr. Steve Stone.
