Magazine Helps Charlotte Homeless Get Off Street

Charlotte, N.C. (WJZY) -- Have you ever lived on the streets? Do you know what it's like to have no place to call home?

We spend the day with someone who has been there, who has been homeless. Now he's getting back on his feet thanks to a special magazine called Speak Up.

You're looking through the eyes of someone who used to be homeless. His name is Troy Burtnick.

He's just like you and me.

Thanks to have special magazine, Troy is no longer living on the streets and has saved enough to buy a used car.

Matt Shaw is the founder of Speak Up magazine. Since it started in 2011, he says the magazine has helped more than 150 people.

The magazine also works as an icebreaker between people on both sides.
