York Police Chief Should Have "Ended" April 4 Police Chase

Posted: Updated:

A review of a police chase in York last month determined that the chief, who is also under investigation for use of force, violated York police policies during the chase.

The City of York released a review of the April 4 chase, where three young officers and Chief Andy Robinson chased a man in a stolen car, exceeding speeds of 137 miles per hour.

The report concluded that the chase should have never happened.

According to York police policy, during a chase the officer must drive with due regard for the safety of all persons.

City Manager Charlie Helms said that Chief Andy Robinson should have ended the pursuit when officers reached dangerous speeds.

Chief Robinson is currently under investigation for use of force during the same incident, but that is being handled by SLED.
