Pieces of Statue of Liberty replica stolen from park

Posted: Updated:
NEW YORK (MYFOXNY) - An art exhibit of a replica of the Statue of Liberty broken up into about 250 pieces is missing a large section after a robbery in City Hall Park earlier this week.

The stolen piece- a large, chain link section made of copper resembling a portion of the statue's foot- weighs about 40 lbs. and is worth about $6,000.

It disappeared between Tuesday at 6 p.m. and Wednesday at 7 a.m.

The exhibit, 'We The People,' was under construction inside the park at Murray St. and Park Place.

Created by Dutch artist Dahn Vo intended to give the public "a separate, more intimate look at the statue."

The art installation will be divided between City Hall Park and Brooklyn Bridge Park from May 17  through Dec. 5.

Pull out your smartphone on any given day, tap on Instagram and you'll find a lot of selfies. But while the rest of us clog our feeds with our best pouty faces, a group of photographers scales and then hangs off bridges and buildings in a contest to produce the most daring photograph in New York City.

For kids trying to be fashionable -- and parents looking to keep it affordable -- there's the Ocean County Hunger Relief Warehouse in Toms River, New Jersey. It's basically a huge thrift shop.
