Jury indicts victims girlfriend in deadly hit and run case

PHOENIX (KSAZ) - She's accused of running over her boyfriend, driving off, and leaving him dying on the side of the road.

On Thursday 20-year-old, Brittney Nolan was placed behind bars again.

It's taken months for Phoenix Police to finish their investigation, but now they say they found enough evidence for a grand jury to charge Nolan with second degree murder in the hit and run case.

Brittney Nolan is back in jail, the 20-year-old turned herself in after being indicted by a grand jury. She is accused of recklessly running over her boyfriend 20-year-old Jake Rice.

Back in February police arrested Nolan, she was first charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash and then released on a 10-thousand dollar bond.
After a 3-month investigation, police say crime scene experts found Nolan was driving recklessly at least 67 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone when the hit and run happened.

"He was a just a great person, and I'm so sad this had to happen to him," said Emmalee Auralilo.

Nolan claims she and her boyfriend got into a fight when he walked away from her car near the carefree highway. Police say she told them she was driving around looking for him, then looked at her cell phone, went off the road, and continued on thinking she hit a pole.

Initially, police say prosecutors asked the grand jury for a lesser charge, but they decided to indict Nolan on a second degree murder charge.

FOX 10 asked for an interview with Nolan, but authorities declined saying that she is on a psychiatric hold.
