Part of Governor Pat McCrory's budget proposal could include another three million dollars for state Pre-K programs. The programs have lost state and federal funding over the years. Now, if they got the money back, it could help bolster a program that teachers say is essential for young students.

One Pre-K program in Cabarras County teaches students how to tie their shoes, and spell their name. They say the skills learned in a Pre-K environment are essential, and needed for any student moving on to Kindergarten.

The budget is still in the proposing stages, and must be approved by the legislature before that money is made available to these programs.
