HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A schedule overhaul by Metro-North Railroad intended to improve reliability on the Waterbury branch line has increased commuting time for some commuters.

A commuter advocate says a morning express train on the Waterbury branch line to Stamford has been eliminated. Jim Gildea of the Connecticut Rail Commuter Council says the loss is the latest blow to a branch line he says is undervalued by Metro-North and Connecticut Department of Transportation.

Metro-North introduced the schedule last Sunday to help improve service.

Marjorie Anders, a Metro-North spokeswoman, said Thursday that trains were shifted to move equipment to improve reliability.

She said the state Department of Transportation determines the Connecticut rail schedule. An agency spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Metro-North said commutes will be shorter for 96 percent of inbound morning-peak riders.
