Speed, Faulty Brake Led to Fire truck Accident

A report by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department revealed the cause of the fire truck accident last week off Ardrey Kell Rd.

According to the report, an auxiliary brake failed to engage as the ladder truck came down a hill on Ardrey Kell Rd toward Bridgehampton Club Drive.

The truck was traveling 44 miles per hour before crashing. Police estimate the truck crashed at 33 miles per hour. Upon impact, the vehicle caught on fire.

All emergency lights and sirens were on at the time of the crash.

Four officers sustained minor injuries in the crash.
