Hickory, NC - A student at Lenoir-Rhyne drowned Monday at a lake in Hickory.

Vince Njoku, a freshman football player from Woodstock Ga., was hiking and swimming at Geitner-Rotary Park when the accident occurred.

According to officials, Njoku was jumping off the rocks. About six people were nearby when he drowned and sources say they tried to reach him in the water, but were unsuccessful.

Bystanders stopped their efforts when rescue crews came. Divers found him in 13 feet of water.
