"I want to be a mother"

Charlotte, NC - "I want to be a mother"

On this Mother’s Day, many people are honoring those who are mothers… but what about the women who want to be one, like Tiffany Glover. “I think the strongest bond is between a mother and its child,” Tiffany Glover says.  She helps raises her 12- year-old nephew, and now wants to  have a child of her own. “My sister is a single mom, so it takes a lot of work to raise a child. I’ve gotten to experience the joys and the pain of everything is takes to become a parent.” Although Tiffany is single she is not letting that stop keep her from motherhood, so she is considering adopting. “ I think adoption is great,” Tiffany says. ““I watched a documentary on Netflix about adoption and the need for people to adopt. I was thinking to myself why not, you know I can do it too, even though I’m not married yet. “

Adoption in North Carolina:

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Department of Social Services says the process of adoption is timely, with a few guidelines, but the new addition to your family is definitely worth the wait.

Aundra Spencer, an adoption recruiter says “You have to pass a finger print test which is done nationally and a local background check. You will need a physical from your doctor, and to participate in the Map training which a requirement is if you adopt someone that is not your relative in the state of North Carolina.” If you pass the requirements, Aundra says that is when you start learning about the children." You learn about the children through paper, they we decide if that’s a good fit. You start off with a few hours visit, to day visits, and the parent gets to experience taking you to school so we ease the parents and kids together so everyone has a chance to get comfortable.” She also says the process of adoption can take up to a year.

Although Tiffany may not be a mother this year, she says she can’t wait to experience the rewards of motherhood. "Joy, love, companionship, learning, happiness, and sadness, there’s a lot that comes with being a parent and I want to experience it all for myself.”
