Concord, NC -

Charlotte Motor Speedway is preparing for two big events later this month. The Sprint All-Star Race is set for May 17 and the Coca-Cola 600 is planned for May 25.

Marcus Smith, president, Charlotte Motor Speedway, said the track is gearing up for fans to make their way to the Concord facility later this month.

“I tell people that what we do at the Speedway, we’re either getting ready for a party, having a party or cleaning up after one,” said Smith. “It really does take a full year to coordinate thousands of people, hundreds of business and a whole bunch of fans that are going to descend on us.”

Members of the Speedway staff take time out to physically walk through the facility before the main events.

“A hundred or so people walk through the facility and check for loose bolts, or paving that’s uneven, trip hazards, you name it, you’ve got to look for it,” said Smith.

Time is ticking away for final preparations to the Speedway to be completed.

“We never really finish getting ready for the races, we just run out of time,” he said. “They’re going to happen whether we’re ready or not.”
