GET INVOLVED: Ways to keep teachers in North Carolina
By Stephanie Glover, Web Producer/Digital Journalist - email
Scheduled Activities to participate in:
*Community Rally for Education - Saturday, May 10th 2014, 12pm, Marshall Park
*June 3rd - County Commissioners meeting to show our support of Dr. Morrison’s proposed budget for next year.
*June 11th - CMS "Block Party" - right before the commission’s straw vote on the 12th Budget Advocacy Meetings - see attached
*It is important for the school board and the county commission to hear your voice in this process. Click here and put in your address to learn who each of your candidates are from the school board to the President. You will then have an appropriate address to write them a letter.
*May 14th DAY OF ACTION - NCAE Rally in Raleigh
*LETTER WRITING CAMPAIGN - NCAE wants to encourage parents to write their own letter, which tends to have a greater impact, but you can also distribute a uniform letter that can be distributed by email. The letter can be printed and mailed or emailed to legislators.
*SILENT STREET SIGN STAND-OUT - Staff, students, parents line up from the top of 10th street to the bottom holding signs urging positive educational reforms.
1. Take a picture of yourself with a May 14 sign and post it on social media. To keep it consistent, please have your sign read, "I'm taking action on May 14 because..." and then write a short reason why you are standing up for public schools in your local or joining us in Raleigh. Encourage your co-workers and community members to do the same.
2. Send an e-mail to your building's listserv asking for everyone to wear red and gather for a picture on Wednesday after work. They want to make social media a sea of red on Wednesday, and every picture counts. Make a plan and do something fun and creative together.
