Today, new numbers showed exactly how much money has been refunded to property owners in Mecklenburg County. These refunds are the result of the 2011 revaluation of properties in the county that hit people with a steep increase in property taxes.

The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners hired an independent contractor, Pearson's Appraisal Service (PAS) to review the 2011 revaluation in accordance with North Carolina General Assembly.

The review broke down the numbers as of April 21.
Number of appeals to date, 888. Refunds to date, 5,599.
Total amount of refunds, $2,842,386.77

PAS has a work plan map that property owners can enter their information into to see when their neighborhood will be reevaluated.

The PAS review project is expected to complete their work in February 2015.
