I got so sick of the Canadian cold, I moved down to Charlotte just to avoid the snow. And of course to join the My Fox Carolinas family as a Digital Journalist. I grew up in Calgary (think the Houston of Canada) and after graduating from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Journalism, I moved to Toronto to cover sports; which in Canada means hockey.

Charlotte, NC - Carolina Panthers' linebacker Thomas Davis is not only making a difference on the field, but off the field as well.

The linebacker is up for "Most Valuable Philanthropist" in the 2014 Sports Category. It is part of  "All Stars of Giving."

Davis founded "Defending Dreams" with his wife, Kelly.  The foundation strives to teach kids through academic programs and sports programs.  Davis hosts a free football camp for kids.  The program is designed to teach kids about teamwork, leadership, and various skills to help them reach their goals.

Giving back to the community is important to Davis and his wife Kelly for many reasons. The inspiration to start his foundation came from his own childhood, during which he didn't have the opportunities he's trying to provide kids with now.

Davis grew up in Georgia, and his wife is from South Carolina. Combine that with the fact that Davis has played all nine seasons of his NFL career in Charlotte, and it's easy to see why he feels compelled to help these communities.

Currently, Davis is in 2nd place for the 'MVP' award. Fans can vote three times a day until May 15th.
