Fort Bragg helicopter goes down during training near Texas Army post

Ft. Bragg, NC - (WRAL)--- A CH-47 Chinook helicopter with the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade went down Saturday night while on a training mission, a spokeswoman for the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg said Sunday.

Lt. Col. Virginia McCabe said the helicopter was involved in High Altitude Mountainous Environment Training when it went down approximately 8:15 p.m. local time at a site near Fort Bliss, Texas.

McCabe did not say how many soldiers were on board at the time, but local news affiliates reported four soldiers were on board when the helicopter crashed near Orogrande, New Mexico – about 45 miles from Fort Bliss.

It's unclear if anyone was injured. McCabe said in an email only that the crash is under investigation.
