I got so sick of the Canadian cold, I moved down to Charlotte just to avoid the snow. And of course to join the My Fox Carolinas family as a Digital Journalist. I grew up in Calgary (think the Houston of Canada) and after graduating from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Journalism, I moved to Toronto to cover sports; which in Canada means hockey.

Charlotte, NC - "My wife cried many a days. I wasn't far behind her. We just had so much bad luck with getting them. At least that's what it seemed."

Gary Lounsbery's house-hunting story is becoming a familiar one with people in the Charlotte area.

Gary and his wife Melissa had been looking for a new home for over a year, and put in multiple offers on several homes before they were finally able to close on the one they're moving into this weekend.

Realtor Katherine McFalls says there are more people looking for houses than there are houses to buy. That means...bidding wars.

"My clients, we found the perfect house for them in the Ballantyne area. We showed it on Day 1, first day on the market, and by the time we submitted our offer on Day 2, our offer was one of eight," McFalls said.

She says her top tip for house-hunters is be prepared to act fast.
"If you see the right home, you have to make an offer pretty much on the same day, or you're going to miss out."

Luckily that strategy worked out for Gary and Melissa Lounsbery.
