What's Brewing at NC Music Factory

Posted: Updated:

Charlotte, N.C. (WJZY) -- What you in the mood for? Comedy? Country? How about Classic Rock?

Well, you've come to the right place. The Music Factory has a variety of flavors and today it got one more.

"We put it under some nitrogen, it gives that nice creamy beer-like effect," said Cathy Tuman, owner of Smelly Cat Cafe in NoDa.

Sorta looks like Guinness - but it doesn't have a lick of alcohol.

"Coffee is a big deal around here. Before we got Smelly Cat coffee, our coffee was so bad. We hated it. I can drink bad coffee; I couldn't drink this coffee," said Melissa Oyler from Creative Loafing.

That's right...it's coffee.

Creative Loafing at NC Music Factory is the first place to get cold brew coffee on tap in Charlotte outside a coffee shop.

"We do a lot of photo shoots here and we'll have photographers and models come in. Before we had Smelly Cat, we didn't have much to offer them. We would say, we have coffee, it's terrible, do you want a cup?" said Melissa.

The frontrunner in all this - Smelly Cat Cafe in NoDa - believes the trend it going to spread like wildfire.

"I think within the next year, people will be able to walk into any of the micro breweries or even any of the bars and ask for a cold brew coffee or cold brew mixed drink," said Cathy, owner of Smelly Cat.

What do you think? Would you get cold coffee on tap at a bar?

"I have a pretty early morning schedule, so a lot of times at night, when my friends want to go out and get a drink, I'm like, do I really want to go out and get a beer or should I go to bed? It's going to be great to have that option. If I want a beer, that's great. If I want a coffee, that's great," said Melissa from Creative Loafing.
