Concord, NC -

North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory visited Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS) today to proclaim May “Motorsports Month” in North Carolina.

“Not only is motorsports great for travel and tourism or providing jobs for motorsports,” said McCrory. “But, we’re using motorsports and NASCAR as a recruitment to bring other industries into North Carolina.”

The days surrounding the Coca-Cola 600 and the Sprint All-Star Race bring nearly $230 million in economic impact to the region. Which, according to McCrory, helps bring new jobs to North Carolina.

CMS President Marcus Smith was also on hand for the announcement, along with Richard Petty and Marcos Ambrose.

“The King has been around a long time,” said Smith. “He knows what racing means to the Charlotte, North Carolina region.”

Richard Petty commented, “We always look forward to coming here. It wasn’t one of our luckiest race tracks, but we always run good here. So, if you run good enough, long enough then you’re going to have good luck and win some races.”
