I got so sick of the Canadian cold, I moved down to Charlotte just to avoid the snow. And of course to join the My Fox Carolinas family as a Digital Journalist. I grew up in Calgary (think the Houston of Canada) and after graduating from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Journalism, I moved to Toronto to cover sports; which in Canada means hockey.

On Wednesday, a the Senate Finance committee passed a bill that would set a maximum for county sales taxes. Mecklenburg County currently has what would become the maximum sales tax -- 2.5 cents -- which means this bill could thwart the county's plan for a referendum in November to raise the sales tax by a quarter of a penny.

After nearly seven months, Tennessee Highway Patrol released the final report on a bus crash that left eight Statesville residents dead and many more injured.

The report concluded that an object got stuck in a tire causing a blowout about 50 miles down the road.  The impact fo the blown tire sent the bus across the median, causing it to collide with  tractor-trailer and SUV.

For survivor Sandy Boyer and her husband Marvin, the report gave them an opportunity they had been waiting for.

"The rescue workers; we’ve watched TV and we’ve seen them occasionally here and there, and to be able to put a name with a face feels like you’re bringing them into your family now," Sandy says. "We want so much to thank them. How do you really thank someone for saving your life?"

Boyer says she was relieved to hear the final report, and relieved to know that nobody was blamed for the accident. She says she believes the whole ordeal is part of God's plan and she emphasized how grateful she was to the rescue and hospital workers that were there for her and her husband that day.

She also said she could have gotten through it without the support of her church and that the accident brought the members of her church that were on the bus that day much closer together.
