Deliberations to resume Tuesday at Devault's trial

Posted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) - Jury deliberations are scheduled to resume Tuesday afternoon over whether an Arizona woman convicted of fatally beating her husband with a hammer should spend the rest of her life in prison or be sentenced to death.

Jurors were scheduled to continue deliberations Monday at the trial of 36-year-old Marissa Devault, but a court spokesman says those plans were called off and the jury will instead meet again Tuesday.

So far, the jury has spent a total of a day-and-a-half considering Devault's punishment.

Devault was convicted in the January 2009 killing of Dale Harrell.

Prosecutors say Devault killed Harrell in a failed bid to collect on a life insurance policy.

Devault says she killed Harrell in self-defense and claims he had physically and sexually abused her in the past.
