Queen's Cup Steeplechase

Posted: Updated:
The 19th annual Queen's Cup Steeplechase had a beautiful day for horse racing. More than 14,000 were at the Brooklandwood Racecourse in Mineral Springs.

Things got kicked off this morning at 10 a.m. and the day provided dog races, pony rides, hat contests, best tailgate, raffle drawings, and of course horse races.

Money raised from the raffle tickets go to fight a deadly disease. This year the Charlotte Steeplechase Association chose the Alzheimer's Association of Western North Carolina as the exclusive beneficiary.

"Alzheimer's disease is the fifth leading cause of death right now in the United States," said Meghan Lawton, Development & Program Manager of the Foothills Alzheimer's Association.

There were a total of six races, the feature race (Queen's Cup MPC 'Chase) had a grand prize of $50,000.

The 2015 Queen's Cup will be Saturday, April 24. It will be the 20th Anniversary.
