Hickory, NC -

L.P. Frans Stadium, which is home to the Hickory Crawdads, is nearing the completion of a $2.5 Million renovation.

"Probably be easier to say what wasn't changed," said Mark Seaman, general manager, Hickory Crawdads.

New lights are installed, picnic and party areas constructed, suites are renovated and the seats are new.

"No more bleachers,” he said. “Everything's a flip down green seat."

One of the keys to the renovation of L.P. Frans Stadium was a public-private partnership between the Hickory Crawdads and the City of Hickory.

"We didn't expect the city to foot the whole bill,” he said. “We came to the table as willing partners and they took the same approach that they were willing to put some money in. The city put in $1.5 Million and the team put in about a million dollars."

Hickory’s Parks and Recreation Director Mack McLeod commented, "Our expectation for here is that minor league is going to be major player here in Hickory for years to come," he said.

Now, baseball fans of every age can continue to root for the Crawdads in a familiar, but improved place.

"It's a beautiful ballpark,” said Seaman. “It's cozy. It's a great atmosphere. It's an inexpensive family experience. We think everybody should come out here and enjoy it."
