More than 140 jobs are headed to Rock Hill in 2015.
McKesson Medical-Surgical Inc., a distributor of medical supplies announced Friday it is establishing a new distribution facility in the Riverwalk Business Park in Rock Hill. The facility is expected to open during the first half of next year.
McKesson is expected to invest $27.5 million in the new, 300,000-square-foot building. It will operate a regional service from the building, distributing medical and surgical supplies to physician offices, surgery centers, long-term care facilities and home care businesses in the Carolinas. The company said they also have the flexibility to expand the York County facility, should the need arise.
"Riverwalk Business Park is growing more rapidly than expected, due to its proximity to the interstate and the success of the mixed-use development,” said Rock Hill Mayor Doug Echols. “Business leaders are recognizing that Rock Hill has a lot to offer, and the addition of McKesson to our community is further proof that we are becoming a leader among high-tech companies.”
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits and a $200,000 grant for building construction related to the project.
Several political figures and business leaders commented on the announcement saying that they were pleased with the announcement and looked forward to the facility’s opening.
“McKesson is a leader in distribution for the medical industry, and South Carolina's robust logistics network will be able to accommodate their business and their growth in the coming years,” said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt.
Dr. Britt Blackwell, chairman of York County Council added, “McKesson's pharmaceutical and medical products distribution and logistics facility represents a major benchmark for York County. This state-of-the-art supply and delivery operation will serve the exacting needs of the doctors, hospitals and many healthcare providers in South Carolina and the Southeast region.”?
