I got so sick of the Canadian cold, I moved down to Charlotte just to avoid the snow. And of course to join the My Fox Carolinas family as a Digital Journalist. I grew up in Calgary (think the Houston of Canada) and after graduating from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Journalism, I moved to Toronto to cover sports; which in Canada means hockey.

If you only had 36 hours to spend in the Queen City, what would you do? Where would you eat? What would you want to see? That is the idea behind the New York Times '36 Hours' feature.

Charlotte, NC - Faith Dixon loves basketball. She's played for years and was a stand-out player until she started noticing she was fatigued more often on the court.

She was unable to keep up with her usual training routine, and it wasn't long before her family realized something was really wrong. Her kidneys were leaking protein. She went on dialysis and began waiting for a kidney transplant.

Dixon was united with Team IMPACT: an organization that aims to improve the lives of kids with life-threatening illnesses through team sports and activities.

Today, Dixon was introduced as a honorary member of the 49ers women's basketball team. She had a press conference where she 'signed' with the team, followed by an unveiling of her very own locker.

The other players and coaches sang chants and chatted with Dixon and her mother while Dixon sorted through all her new 49ers basketball gear.

Dixon described the experience as "overwhelming".
