Police search for Jeep after pedestrian hit-and-run

Charlotte, NC (WJZY) -- The Charlotte- Mecklenburg Police Department needs your help locating the vehicle from a hit-and-run accident.

Police say a pedestrian was stuck around 10:30 Saturday evening while attempting to cross the 5200 block of Albemarle Road at the intersection of North Sharon Amity Road.

Witnesses have reported that Tonia Payne, 43 was walking outside of the crosswalk.   

Payne is currently in critical condition and has life- threatening injuries.

Police are presently searching for the vehicle that fled the scene of the accident. Witnesses say Payne was struck by an older model white Jeep Grand Cherokee. The front end of the vehicle should be damaged.

The vehicle was last seen heading east on Albemarle Road.
