Police investigate elderly woman's murder in SW Atlanta

Atlanta Police are investigating the apparent murder of an elderly woman in southwest Atlanta.

Officers discovered the body of the woman Friday morning inside a home in the 1600 block of Fairburn Road.

The head of the Atlanta Police Department's Homicide Unit said officers went to the house on a welfare check, after receiving information that someone inside might be in distress.

Captain Paul Guerrucci told FOX 5 the victim had multiple injuries.

Guerrucci said the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

Police did not immediately release the cause of death, pending notification of next of kin.

Guerrucci said investigators are working several leads on the case.

 

 

Authorities are investigating a homicide in southwest Atlanta.

According to Atlanta Police, the death happened around the 1600 block of Fairburn Road.

Authorities aren't releasing many details on the investigation, at this time.
