Hey, Hey Carolinas! I'm doing the job I love in the place I love, my hometown. I grew up in Concord and I'm grateful to be back home telling the stories of such wonderful people in and around the Charlotte area.

A community is coming together to remember a volunteer firefighter killed late last year after deputies say he interrupted a burglary at his home. Marcus Kauffman left behind a wife and an unborn child. Marcus “Landon” Trace Kauffman has since been born, and the community event is a fundraiser to benefit Landon and his mother, Maryann.

The Flapjack Fundraiser and Kauffman Memorial Ride, hosted by the Carolina-Scat Pack Car Club, is April 26. The Flapjack Breakfast is from 7a.m.-10a.m. at Applebee’s in Statesville. The memorial ride will start after the breakfast. Car clubs, motorcycles, police, fire and individuals are invited to register their cars and participate in the ride from the Applebee’s in Statesville to Salisbury. You can get more information here.

Volunteers are also need for the Flapjack Breakfast and Memorial Ride. There will be a volunteer meeting at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 19, at the Golden Corral in Statesville. Email mailto:angela.lorch@icloud.com if you would like to attend the volunteer meeting.

Angela Lorch and her husband Travis, a volunteer firefighter, are organizing the events. They did not know the Kauffmans, but they were touched by the tragedy and wanted to help. Angela Lorch said, “I would want somebody to do that for me…Heaven forbid, but you have to find some way to help somebody.”

Angela Lorch said, “You have to pull together at these times and take care of one another.”
