Early Thursday morning, more than 20,000 Easter eggs were scattered along Tryon Street in Uptown.
The eggsplosion was orchestrated by a group called True Meaning Charlotte. Each egg was filled with a Bible verse and a Lifesaver candy.
According to a video (above) posted by the group, the idea was to express the true meaning of Easter and spread the love of Christ to those living and working uptown.
City sanitation crews and street sweepers were called in to clean up the streets, but the group said it had intended to clean up the mess itself.
On it's website True Meaning Charlotte had this to say:
"Feedback has been largely positive about the Eggsplosion of hope that occurred in uptown Charlotte early this morning. However, we have regretfully learned that before the morning was over, the empty plastic egg shells created a hassle that city workers had to clean up. We didn’t want this to happen! Our intention was to clean everything up at the day’s end. But in hindsight, we should have planned better–so that our positive message wasn’t offset by a negative impact on someone else. We are very sorry for this!"
