I got so sick of the Canadian cold, I moved down to Charlotte just to avoid the snow. And of course to join the My Fox Carolinas family as a Digital Journalist. I grew up in Calgary (think the Houston of Canada) and after graduating from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Journalism, I moved to Toronto to cover sports; which in Canada means hockey.

Charlotte, NC - Charlotte is the cream of the crop for new grads, according to a recent report from Apartments.com.

Contrary to what many people might believe, the best cities for brand new young professionals are not always where the jobs are. Factors like affordability and vibrant nightlife and culture are also important.

In terms of jobs, things like overall opportunity for employment and growth are also very important. President at Charlotte Chamber Bob Morgan thinks it's cyclical. The more big corporations bring jobs to the Charlotte area, the more young professional are drawn here. The more new grads there are, the more appealing a market it is to companies.

When Apartments.com was conducting their research, they looked at unemployment rates across America and cities with an unemployment rate of seven per cent or higher were automatically eliminated from the list.

They also gave added weight to cities with a higher percentage of population between the ages of 25-35.

According to the list, the average cost of a one bedroom apartment in Charlotte is $953 a month, making it one of the most affordable cities to live in on your own.
