Police: Break-in suspect shot, dies after crash

Posted: Updated:
DETROIT (WJBK) -- Detroit police say a break-in suspect who was shot by homeowner has died after crashing a getaway vehicle into a nearby home.

Sgt. Michael Woody says two people tried to break into the home on the 15000 block of Glastonbury early Thursday through a window and a third was sitting in the vehicle.

Woody says the homeowner shot at the suspects, who returned fire. He says the person in the vehicle was hit and the two other suspects fled on foot.

FOX 2's Roop Raj reports a woman in the home that was crashed into was injured. Police didn't immediately say whether the gunfire or crash killed the suspect.

The other two break-in suspects are being sought.

Raj confirms this is the seventh home invader shot in 2014 and the fourth in the last six weeks.

Last week, a homeowner shot two 19-year-old suspects, killing one. In early March, a 17-year-old was fatally shot outside a home on Penrod Street. On March 25, a homeowner with a valid concealed weapons license fatally shot two suspected intruders at his home on Dexter.
