I got so sick of the Canadian cold, I moved down to Charlotte just to avoid the snow. And of course to join the My Fox Carolinas family as a Digital Journalist. I grew up in Calgary (think the Houston of Canada) and after graduating from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Journalism, I moved to Toronto to cover sports; which in Canada means hockey.

Charlotte, NC - Tonight a man driving a truck tried to beat a train across the tracks and failed. At around 5 p.m. a train collided with the back end of a pick-up truck at the intersection of West Summit and Clarkson.

Michael Knight, who was leaving work when it happened, described the scene as an explosion that sent debris flying all over the tracks. Knight witnessed the accident and actually rushed over to pull the driver from the truck before emergency crews could get there.

The driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries, and the conclusion drawn by the people who witnessed it is that he's lucky to be alive.

Crossing tracks when the flashing stop arms are down is illegal and CMPD is now investigating the accident.
