Only On Fox: Arsonist On The Loose In South Jersey Town

Posted: Updated:
MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. -

It started with a brush fire, then another fire at the rear of this home on Monroe Street and finally a blaze that swept through this vacant home up the block, just a few feet away from where Emma Sethman lives .

"I got two little kids in the house. I got a five year old and two year old and that's really close to our house," Sethman told Fox 29 Wednesday.

"It looks like they're all intentionally set," Mt. Holly Detective Sgt. Williams Fields said.

Mount Holly police say they're now searching  for an arsonist on the loose in this residential area, where the homes are close together and the neighborhood is packed with kids. Fortunately the local fire house is just around the corner.

"This last one was real close to houses that are inhabited, so we're concerned for the next time," Sgt. Fields told Fox 29.

Fire fighters are on alert too. Tuesday night investigators went door to door handing out theses fliers warning residents here that someone had been starting fires in their neighborhood. Gabrielle Jones put one of the fires out in this park right behind her house.

"It concerns me yeah sure, the wind picks up takes a hot ember , the shed can catch on fire, the house or something," she said.

Police are reviewing surveillance video from the block and are pursuing some good leads in the case. Until they catch the suspect, they are asking residents to be their eyes and ears in the neighborhood.

"We're looking for anything, suspicious activity, anything out of the norm so we can locate this person," Sgt. Fields added.

"If they're setting them down here, here and down there, what else is gonna happen," Sethman said."It's a little to close to home , really it is."

Police say they did have a car arson in the same area a couple of months ago. They will not say if any flammable liquids were used in these fires. No one has been injured in the fires so far.
