Concord Job Fair Wednesday Set To Feature Almost 50 Companies

Posted: Updated:

Around 50 companies are scheduled to be in Concord Wednesday for a job fair hosted by the Cabarrus County Workforce Center. The event is from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. with a session for veterans only from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. The job fair will be at New Life Baptist Church on Biscayne Drive in Concord. You do not need to pre-register. Officials say you can just show up with your resume.

Officials tell us Lowe's, Wal-Mart, S&D Coffee, and the Charlotte Motor Speedway are a few of the companies that have signed up to participate. Elayne Price is a Navy veteran.

Within the last year, she moved to Kannapolis from Pennsylvania, and she hasn't been able to find a job. She says, "I'm starting over again, and it gets lonesome, and it gets confusing."

She spends a lot of time at Cabarrus County's Workforce Center trying to make connections and turn the skills she learned in the military into something that makes companies want to hire her. Price said, "When you get out, you kind of feel like you don't have that team, but you do have that team. You carry those tools, those tools that you learn."

Veteran Mike Willis is also attending the job fair. He said, "I've got a glance at the list of the companies that are going to be there, quite a few distribution centers, and those are definitely going to be my targets."
