Carroll Walsh goes by the name Blue, but he has a personality quite opposite of that. He says archery comes down to concentration, patience, and discipline.

"Archery's all in the mind. You concentrate on what you're doing and where you're aiming,” he said.

He aims for the center, no matter how impossible it may seem. The thing about Blue is, he knows a thing or two about setting goals.

He joined the Marines in the 1970's, right as the Vietnam War was ending. He served for four years, but he says it was for life.

One thing he learned in the Marines , if you start something, you finish it. This is a sport he started at seven years old. And after all these years, he's just now picking it back up.

Blue now competes in the senior games, where he’s won competitions.

"It's fun to see other people my own age,” he says.

Blue says his hobby and his experience of serving this country are aligned, like the string he stretches out across the field.

He's looking forward to the qualifier competition on Tuesday.
