Police say they have apprehended a suspect allegedly involved in shooting at a Walmart in Belmont. Police issued a lock down for the entire Mercy Place area, including Bi-Lo and Lowes Hardware store following the shooting.

Police say they believe this incident was a jewelry sale gone wrong. Three suspects were involved.

A little before four this afternoon shots rang out, just outside the Walmart on Hawley Avenue.

"[People] started ducking up under the cars, some people were running," says Jasha Hunter who was sitting in her car when the shooting happened.

Police tell FOX46 the shooter drove up in a black car and tried to sell rings to two men in a Jeep Grand Cherokee. As soon as the passenger of the Cherokee had the rings, police say, the Cherokee drove away.

They say he fired four shots at the men as they drove off in the middle of the sale. Soon after, the "passenger jumped out of the car and ran toward the Lowes," said Belmont Police Chief Charlie Franklin.

He told us that the man ran toward the interstate. Police found him just before 6 p.m. on the grounds of Holy Angels. He was uninjured.

Shoppers say they can't believe it all happened at their neighborhood Walmart.

"You leave the house you say a prayer before you go because you don't know if you're gonna come back ," Hunter told us.

Police have not released any of the suspects' names.
