Cell Tower Rescue

Cell Tower Rescue

Posted: Updated:

It was an incredible scene Thursday evening along the 3800 block of Shamrock Drive in East Charlotte.  A workman was stuck dangling from a cell phone tower by his harness.  Charlotte Fire Department got the call just after 5 PM and raced to the scene.  Approximately 20 men and women from Rescue 3, jumped into action. On scene, they found the workman suspended by his harness.

Two men from Charlotte Fire's Rescue 3 climbed to the top of the cell phone tower, 150 feet in the air. When the workman saw the fire fighters coming he said, "Thank God you're here."  He was complaining about back pain and fatigue had set in.  One of the fire fighters lifted the workman to the top of the tower.  The other, was able to lower the workman down - all the way down - to the ground.

The entire rescue took about one hour.  The workman hit the ground at 6:29 PM.  He was placed in an ambulance and taken to the hospital by Medic.  Firefighters say the workman was in good spirits.  He is expected to fully recover.
