Bank of America announced today it would be laying off approximately 3,000 employees over the next year. The Charlotte-based bank will close down operations and technology plants in San Jose, Costa Rica; Taguig City, Philippines; and Guadalajara, Mexico over the next year.

“We review our global operations on an ongoing basis to make the best use of our resources, balance capacity across our sites and simplify our company for our customers and clients around the world,” BOA spokesman Mark Pipitone said in an email.

Pipitone said the company decided to let employees know of the closings early so those affected could begin to look for new jobs.

“Bank of America has a strong track record for helping employees transition to new positions outside our company,” he said.

The company says this won’t impact Bank of America Merrill Lynch, another name for the company’s Global Banking and Markets business. BOA Merrill Lynch serves commercial, corporate and institutional clients in Latin America.
