High school students at the Community School of Davidson participated in a mock crime scene led by CMPD and homicide prosecutors.

The scenes had a mannequin to represent a victim, ketchup for blood, and cilantro for marijuana. The students learned from crime scene investigators and from prosecutors about how crime scene evidence is collected and preserved.

They examined footprints, shell casings and other physical evidence to determine what happened. For high school kids interested in wearing a badge one day. the event was a dream come true. Jonathan Tornberg explains his reasons of wanting to become a future investigator.

"Bringing someone to justice and being able to help out the victims and help out the families and people who have suffered through these horrendous crimes," he said.

Leslie Stephens, assistant DA, says the victim's wounds tell the story of what happened and how.

"We are trying to make it as realistic as possible and we're using real evidence that we've encountered when we've looked at cases and things that we find important," she said.

After all, the evidence whispers the truth for those who know how to listen.

We all have heard of the saying, “a dog is a man’s best friend," it may sound a bit cliche but it’s true for Fred Shrill and his dog Tucker. “I wouldn’t take the world or him,” said Fred as he smiled.

Friday, for my assignment, I was tasked with a ride-along in a Global Rallycross car, at The Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Cars that go zero-to-60 in 1.9 seconds -- that's faster than a formula one car. We're talking about machines with absurd power. Not a bad gig... But enough to make you a little skittish...
