I got so sick of the Canadian cold, I moved down to Charlotte just to avoid the snow. And of course to join the My Fox Carolinas family as a Digital Journalist. I grew up in Calgary (think the Houston of Canada) and after graduating from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Journalism, I moved to Toronto to cover sports; which in Canada means hockey.

President Obama arrived at the Charlotte Convention Center Tuesday to much fan fare. There were long lines, big crowds and the traffic to match. After the dust settled following his speech, veterans were able to make their way inside the Convention Center to seek out help at the Veteran's Crisis Command Center.

Belmont, NC - In an effort to address the issues of education affordability, Belmont Abbey has decided to tackle their end of the finances, instead of raising tuition costs.

Today Belmont Abbey College announced the launch of its new Affordable Private College Model.

To close the gap between revenue from tuition and what it actually costs to run the school, Belmont Abbey plans to reduce the size of it's administration and create more effective and efficient ways to serve students. By lowering costs on their end, they will eliminate the need to make up the revenue gap by hiking up tuition prices.

Belmont Abbey also plans to help students by making a place -- called the Student Success Hub -- where students can go to get the answers to all their questions in one place.

Last year, Belmont Abbey reduced tuition prices by 33 percent, making it one of the most reasonably-priced private colleges or universities in the country.

Their new Affordable Private College Model will take effect in the 2014-2015 school year, and their goal is to be operating on tuition alone within three years.
