FLINT, Mich. (WJBK) -- Three Flint residents have been charged with child abuse after footage showing a boy being repeatedly struck with a belt was posted online.

The Genesee County prosecutor's office announced Tuesday that Demitria Powell, the 11-year-old boy's mother, along with Uteas Taylor, 42, and Stefon Felton, 39, each face three felony child abuse counts in the case.

Special assistant prosecuting attorney John Potbury says the three defendants have been in custody since Sunday. They are to face arraignment either Tuesday or Wednesday in Flint District Court.

According to the prosecutor's office, video of the boy being beaten on Thursday was video-recorded and posted to Facebook. "The adults in this case clearly went beyond what is a reasonable level of 'parental discipline,'" said Genesee Co. Prosecutor David Leyton. "What the video in this case reveals is a group of adults whose actions were a criminal assault against a child and that behavior cannot be condoned nor allowed under the law."

The video shows the boy being hit 60 times with a belt on his buttocks while he's bent over with his hands on the arm of a dining room chair.
